2017

2017 started off with a bold leap. I had the pleasure of living and working in Key West for 4 weeks as an artist-in-residence with The Studios of Key West. It was an amazing adventure, in and out of the studio. I made huge leaps in my work- letting go of imagery a bit, playing with mark making, form, and movement. I made 124 works on paper, 16 small works on canvas, 5 large paintings on canvas, filled 3 sketchbooks, and worked on a writing project! Read more...

The leap I made is clear, looking at from Hyphen, the pair of bison, which was my first painting of 2017 to the work I did while in Key West. It was a bold push towards abstraction, but imagery is making it's way back in. Painting is always a journey, often a struggle, but I'm pleased with where it's taken me.

Finishing out 2017, I have a new body of work for my solo show, REARRANGING ROOMS, at Project 1628 in Baltimore. I've never been so excited to share new work and a new direction. This work is the result of my exploration in mark making and abstraction this year. Imagery has made it's way back in, but it's more intentional. I hope this work is more inviting, engaging, bold, and powerful. I hope you enjoy it. Rearranging Rooms is up through Jan 4, 2018.
