Building Alliances

An interview by Cloe Gallagher, featured in WhatWeekly.com, about my most recent work in the Pinebox Art Center, group exhibition, Introductions

http://whatweekly.com/2013/04/05/building-alliances/

Introductions: Pinebox Art Center

Introductions: A group exhibition opening at Pinebox Art Center, beginning on April 5 and closing May 3, 2013. This exhibition presents a series of figure-driven paintings from artists that are new to the Art Community via Undergraduate and Graduate programs in the Greater Baltimore Area. The works presented glide between abstraction and representational depictions of the human form. The debut of the new works coincides with the recent addition of Pinebox Art Center to the cultural landscape of Baltimore.

Artists:
Jessie Gray, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design
Peter Ferguson, MICA
Aleksandra Katargina, Towson University
Katie Pumphrey, MICA and current resident at the Creative Alliance

Introductions has been curated by Amy Boone-McCreesh, who currently works as Adjunct Faculty at MICA and Howard Community College. Amy has curated exhibitions at local art venues such as Maryland Art Place. She is also currently a Fellow at the Hamiltonian Gallery in Washington D.C.

Please join us for the opening reception on April 5, 2013 from 7-9 pm, meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments and music from DJ MoGillaH.

Galaxy Cream: Creative Alliance Resident Artists Exhibition

Artists-in-Residents Exhibition: March 29th - April 12, 2013

Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 11am - 7pm

RESIDENTS: Jeffrey Gangwisch, Sam Allerton Green, Toym Imao, Francisco Loza, Michael Owen, Katie Pumphrey, Jeremy Stern, Kate MacKinnon, and Alessandra Torres

GALAXY CREAM is a collaborative exhibition conceived by the artists-in-residents that represents their connectedness as an awe-inspiring “constellation” of artists both above and beyond the first floor of the Creative Alliance. Their diversity of work materially, formally, and conceptually mirrors that of Baltimore at large – from street art and experimental film to painting and sculpture – while still remaining individually authentic.

As the crème de la crème of Baltimore’s art scene, the nine artists-in-residence at The Creative Alliance function as ambassadors of the organization, upholding our mission to engage the community-at-large in superb artistic programming, education, and outreach. Many of these talented artists also have international roots and connections. Hailing from countries such as Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines, they travel all over the world and bring their global experiences back to the Alliance. This lively cultural exchange enriches the work of each resident artist -- and GALAXY CREAM is an extraordinary culmination of their artistic dialog.
